Sun-dried Iranian Figs

DSCN0294.JPGStop it, just stop snickering – I know they don’t look appealing. But just remember, even the finest cheeses tend to have a less than desirable odor.  Oh, and you weren't so hot in high school either... so, don't judge.

These dried figs are like the Quasimodo of dried fruit - you couldn't know until you got acquainted that they could be so sweet. In terms of texture, they are like a Swedish berry. You chew on them a bit until they yield to a soft inside filled with a crunchy texture from the seeds. Sweet and without any added sugar, these are dangerously habit forming. For serving suggestions, other than by themselves, they are a favourite of mine on a cheese plate. For a more dessert approach, I like to chopped them up with pecans and dark chocolate chips and sprinkle them over roasted pears served with vanilla ice cream.

These, like many other treasures (see Sesame-Soya Almonds) are available at Sunsource.
